Retraction “Cyclin D1 Gene Silencing Promotes IL-1β-Induced Apoptosis in Rat Chondrocytes,” by Peng-Fei Zan, Jie Yao, Zhong Wu, Yong Yang, Shuo Hu, Guo-Dong Li, J Cell Biochem. 2018; 290-299 The above article, published online on 26 May 2017 in Wiley Online Library (https//onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jcb.26172) has been retracted by agreement between the the journal’s Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Christian Behl, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation based on allegations raised by a third party. A detailed investigation revealed that several image elements of the experimental data were published elsewhere in a different scientific contest. Thus, the editors consider the conclusions of this article to be invalid.Retraction “Down-regulation of the long noncoding RNA-HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA inhibits the occurrence and progression of glioma,” by Bin Yang, Zhen-Yu Wei, Bang-Qing Wang, Hua-Chao Yang, Jun-Yi Wang, Xing-Yao Bu, J Cell Biochem. 2018; 2278-2287 The above article, published online on 31 August 2017 in Wiley Online Library (https//onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jcb.26390) has been retracted by agreement between the the journal’s Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Christian Behl, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation based on allegations raised by a third party. As several flaws and inconsistencies between results presented and experimental methods described were found, the editors consider the conclusions of this article to be invalid.Retraction “Microrna-139-5p inhibits epithelial-mesenchymal transition and fibrosis in post-menopausal women with interstitial cystitis by targeting LPAR4 via the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway,” by Chen Jiang, Zhen Tong, Wei-Lin Fang, Qi-Bo Fu, Yin-Jun Gu, Ting-Ting Lv, Dong-Ming Liu, Wei Xue, Jian-Wei Lv, J Cell Biochem. 2018; 6429-6441 The above article, published online on 14 December 2017 in Wiley Online Library (https//onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jcb.26610) has been retracted by agreement between the journal’s Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Christian Behl, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. Observations on patient samples and model systems demonstrated links between aggregate formation and declining mitochondrial functionality, but causalities remain unclear. We used Saccharomyces cerevisiae to analyze how mitochondrial processes regulate the behavior of aggregation-prone polyQ protein derived from human huntingtin. Expression of Q97-GFP rapidly led to insoluble cytosolic aggregates and cell death. Although aggregation impaired mitochondrial respiration only slightly, it considerably interfered with the import of mitochondrial precursor proteins. Mutants in the import component Mia40 were hypersensitive to Q97-GFP, whereas Mia40 overexpression strongly suppressed the formation of toxic Q97-GFP aggregates both in yeast and in human cells. Based on these observations, we propose that the post-translational import of mitochondrial precursor proteins into mitochondria competes with aggregation-prone cytosolic proteins for chaperones and proteasome capacity.
