Most men don’t struggle with wanting to read the Bible. They struggle with when — and what to actually do once they open it.

The morning solves both problems. Before notifications, emails, and the demands of the day, there is a window. For most men it is 15 to 30 minutes. Used well, it is enough to anchor everything that follows.

Why the Morning Is the Right Time

Psalm 5:3 says, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”

What you put into your mind first — before the news, before the inbox — shapes how you see everything else. Practically, willpower and focus peak in the morning. Decision fatigue has not set in yet. Even 15 minutes of intentional time with Scripture in the morning will do more for your faith than an hour of scattered reading at night.

The 5-Step Morning Bible Study Routine

Step 1: Set the Time and Protect It

The biggest obstacle is not laziness — it is having no default time. Without a specific slot, Bible study slides each day until it disappears. Pick a time. Write it down. Treat it like a meeting you cannot miss.

Start with 15 minutes. That is enough. Build from there once the habit locks in. Most men who stay consistent for six weeks never go back.

Step 2: Open with Prayer (2 Minutes)

Do not start with reading. Start with asking. Ask God to open your eyes to what He has for you today. Keep it short: “Lord, quiet my mind and show me what you want me to see today.” Then read.

Step 3: Read One Passage (5–8 Minutes)

Do not try to read five chapters. Read one passage slowly. Consistency in small portions beats sporadic marathons every time. A man who reads three verses every morning for a year knows his Bible better than the man who reads 30 chapters in January and stops in February.

If you are not sure where to start: Proverbs (one chapter per day, matching the day of the month), James, or Romans are excellent entry points for men.

Step 4: Use the SOAP Method (5–8 Minutes)

Reading alone is not studying. The SOAP method turns reading into transformation.

Four steps. One journal page. 5 to 8 minutes. It changes everything.

Step 5: Carry One Thing Into Your Day

Before you close your Bible, write down one thing you are taking with you. Not a list. One thing. A verse. A phrase. A conviction. Something to return to when the day gets hard. Some men write it on a sticky note for the dashboard. Others set it as the phone lock screen. The method does not matter — the anchor does.

Making the Habit Stick

Attach the new habit to something you already do automatically. Brew coffee every morning? Open your Bible when you start the pot. Wake up early for the gym? Add 15 minutes before lacing up. Put your Bible and journal on the kitchen table the night before. The barrier to entry drops to nearly nothing when everything is already in place.

Miss a day? That is fine. Missing once does not break a habit. Missing twice starts to. The only rule: never miss twice in a row.

Common Obstacles and How to Handle Them

“I am not a morning person.” Nobody starts as a morning person. It is a choice that becomes a preference. Give it 30 days before deciding.

“I do not have time.” 15 minutes is less than one Netflix episode. The time exists. The priority does not yet. Change the priority.

“I do not understand what I read.” That is what the SOAP method solves. You do not need to understand everything. You need to apply one thing.

Start Tomorrow Morning

You do not need a new Bible, a new journal, or a new year. You need tomorrow morning and a decision to use it differently. Set the alarm 15 minutes earlier. Put your Bible on the table tonight. Show up.
